Harbor & Fripp Islands SC Real Estate

Fripp Island offer miles of oceanfront and near-oceanfront living. Residents enjoy the surf breaking on vast sunny beaches where gulls, ospreys, porpoises and shrimp boats visit daily.

To reach these barrier islands, drive south from Beaufort, crossing the marshes and creeks of Lady’s and St. Helena Islands, past the shrimp fleet docked at Gay’s Seafood market, and across the swing bridge to Harbor Island, a total of 12 miles from Beaufort. Fripp Island is seven miles farther, across the maritime forests and beaches of Hunting Island State Park (19 miles from Beaufort).

What distinguishes Harbor and Fripp Island from many coastal areas is the fact that they look as peaceful and undisturbed by the human hand today as they did a thousand years ago. White-tailed deer outnumber the residents, and on Fripp it is literally against the law to swat a fly. Author Pat Conroy lives on Fripp, and remembers well his mother’s teachings: “nature is simply another way of approaching God.”

Fripp Island is a sportsperson’s heaven with two championship golf courses, eight swimming pools, 10 tennis courts, a yacht club and health club. These amenities plus the five restaurants are privately owned. Membership is open to residents. On Harbor, smaller and less regulated than Fripp, the swimming pool and health club are owned by the property-owners.

Fripp Island has some 800 year-around residents. The population can swell to 3,000 during the summer months. Harbor starts out with about 150 year-around and peaks at nearly 300 in season. Obviously these islands are as attractive for investment opportunities as they are for living. Yet, they feel like friendly neighborhoods all year around. Fishermen, photographers, artists, readers, music-lovers, beach combers, bird-watchers, investors - all come together to share mutual interests.

Boat-owners are always looking for passengers to join them on excursions. Realtors say that Fripp Island oceanfront and near-oceanfront investments have more than tripled in ten years, and continue to outpace other real estate. Both Harbor and Fripp Islands have marsh and woodsy homesites in addition to those right on the ocean.
